1. In August Wilson’s Fences, are Troy’s problems self-created or is he a victim of circumstances far beyond his control? Make a convincing argument on this question.
2. While some argue that Oedipus is responsible for his fall, others think he is just a victim of the gods or of fate. Who, in your opinion is responsible for Oedipus’ sufferings in Oedipus the King? Is it him, others, the gods, fate or a combination of factors?
3. In Trifles, once the women have pieced together the clues and solved the mystery of Mr. Wright’s death, they quickly come to an agreement to suppress the information from the men who are investigating the murder. Construct an argument in which you identify whether the women are right to withhold their discovery from the investigators or not.
