You’ve read many authors who argue that the United States has never been isolationist. Why is US isolationism in foreign policy a myth? In your answer, explain how the principles and conduct of early US foreign policy (pre-1898) contradict the idea of an isolationist foreign policy. Refer to specific statements by US presidents, including addresses and presidential doctrines, the history of US relations with other polities (including non-Europeans), and justifications for overseas engagement informed by US domestic hierarchies.
