Goal

Students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of life during the American Industrial Revolution?

Role

Students will assume to role of an immigrant similar to one of the characters in the novel Out of This Furnace.

Audience

A friend or family member in Europe considering immigrating from Europe to the United States during the American Industrial Revolution.

Situation

Students will advise their friend or family about immigrating to the United States using anecdotes and references to events in their own life or immigration experience.

Product or Performance

Students will write a 1 – 2 page letter responding to a letter written by their friend or family member in Europe

Standards and Criteria for Success

Students will demonstrate a thorough understanding and knowledge of the living conditions and lifestyles of immigrants living in the United States during the period from 1850 – 1930 by telling the story of a fictional immigrant from the era.
